TELESCOPE FOR VIEWING THE SUN
The Sun is characterized by:
► Its large size
► Its extreme brightness
► Wide field
It must be large enough to contain the sun. There is no need to buy a telescope at high magnification if you want to dedicate yourself to the Sun.
► long focal length
It should be large enough not to get too high magnification that would reduce the field of view (Magnification = Tube focal length / Eyepiece focal length.
► Manual or motorized tracking
If you want to photograph the Sun, an azimuthal mount is sufficient because the exposures are almost instantaneous. In visual observation, automatic tracking (motorized equatorial mount or azimuthal with Go-To) saves you from having to manually re-orient the telescope when the star leaves the field of view.
► Metallic, black polymer or interferential
A sharp reduction in brightness is required. If an instrument is not designed to observe the sun, you must add a filter with a minimum density of 5 = 1/100 000.
